49 CFR §172.704(c) — Hazmat employees must complete recurrent training at least once every three years. This bundle covers four of the five required training categories for employees whose duties do not require In-Depth Security Training.
About This Bundle
Federal law requires hazmat employees to complete recurrent training at least once every three years from the date of their most recent training. This bundle packages four of the five required DOT/PHMSA training categories into a single discounted enrollment — General Awareness, Function-Specific, Safety, and Security Awareness — covering the recurrent training needs of most hazmat employees at a significant savings compared to purchasing each course individually.
Note: In-Depth Security Training is not included in this bundle. Employees who are required to complete In-Depth Security Training should enroll in the Hazmat Compliance Bundle, which includes all five required categories.
Function-Specific Training must be appropriate to the specific hazmat functions each employee performs. Purchasing this bundle does not make one generic function-specific course suitable for every employee or job function.
Included Courses
Hazmat General Awareness Training
Foundational understanding of hazardous materials regulations, classification, labeling, and employee responsibilities under 49 CFR §172.704(a)(1).
Function-Specific Hazmat Training
Training tailored to the specific hazmat functions each employee performs, as required under 49 CFR §172.704(a)(2). Must be appropriate to actual job duties.
Hazmat Safety Training
Covers emergency response information, PPE, accident prevention, and health and physical hazards of materials handled, per 49 CFR §172.704(a)(3).
Security Awareness Training
Addresses security risks associated with hazmat transportation and methods to enhance security, as required under 49 CFR §172.704(a)(4).
Employer Recordkeeping Requirement
Under 49 CFR §172.704, employers must maintain a training record for each hazmat employee that includes the employee's name, most recent training completion date, a description or copy of training materials, the name and address of the training provider, and a certification of completion. Records must be retained during employment and for 90 days after separation.
